She was rude to her only "real" friend, Piper. Then tries crazy hard to just be normal, embrace your undead life girl! Her family sure did, her dad was late to the party, but her mom and aunt didn't even freak out about it. The twist near the end was interesting, i didn't see it coming, and it was a bit too quick for me but oh well. I am interesting to see how book 2 goes, i feel like i will totally hate the MC in that book since she is getting a sorority house and girls to "teach". Oh and her "fangs", had me cracking up. Misc. Braced to bite was an easy and fast read. I finished this book in four hours and I enjoyed it a lot. There were some parts in the book that did bother me, but I will get to that in a bit. What I liked the most about this book was Colby. She was very funny and VERY bold. She was not afraid of anything and knew just what buttons to push. This book was only 224 pages and had a little bit of everything. I found myself laughing out loud so many times and rooting for Thomas and Colby. Now, what I did not like about this book was that once Colby finds out what had happened to her and what she became, she was not shocked at all. I just wasn't convinced at all. It sort of bugged me that her family was just okay with everything and no one really cared or asked questions. Even when Colby's friend finds out what she is, she is not really fazed by it. This was the only issue I had with this book. It just seemed so fake and unreal. Other than that, it was a page turner. A good read and I can't wait to get my hands on the second book of this series.

2.5 Stars I had a proper review planned for this in my head. This book is about a girl named Colby. One day, while she's going home through the woods in the dark (because she's just that smart), she gets attacked and finds out she had turned into a half vampire. But half vampires are considered an abomination by the vamp society so she has to make a case to prove that she deserves to live. Now, I'm gonna be straight: there's nothing new or deep about this book. The writing is acceptably fine and the narrative is funny, making this an entertaining read. And that's basically what this book is: a short, light and entertaining read. You won't finish this book feeling amazed or itching for the second book. You'll most likely read it and go, huh, that was kinda fun, and then move on. The book could be quite cheesy and the story is nothing special. Maybe I'm being a bit harsh (I blame the second book) so I'll say that it did make me laugh and I enjoyed reading it. The protagonist was often annoying but I was able to look past it because she was also the thing that made the book fun. The main critique I wanted to talk about was the scene when Colby finds out she's undead. It was horrible. Seriously, no one seemed to have any reaction. Colby herself was more concerned about her new pale complexion and how drinking blood was totally gross. I always start a book at five start and that scene made the rating drop straight to three. Overall, this was a fun read and that's what I recommend it for. But don't read the sequel. I'm not writing a full review for the sequel but I'll give you a non-spoiler glimpse. Thomas: Hey Colby, you okay? Colby: *storms off in a rage* *How dare he be concerned! He thinks I'm weak. I'm not weak. Thomas is an asshole! I'm never talking to him!* That's basically it (it's getting 1 star). Safe to say, I hated Colby. She was always making stupid assumptions, she was self-absorbed, vain, inconsiderate, bratty, about as mature as a 5-year-old, and dumber than a sac of potatoes. Also safe to say, I'm not reading the third, and last, book. So yeah, you can check this book out but unless you absolutely adore it, I don't recommend the sequel.

This is a cute story! Witty and entertaining! That's why I gave it a 5 star rating. However, I listened to the Audible version and would only give it a 3 star rating. The back ground noise (trucks?) and heavy breathing were very distracting through out the entire book.

The Half-Blood Vampire series are great for something light and fun. All of the books go by quickly so it’s very easy to read them all in a very short time span. They’re funny and engaging; however, a bit unrealistic especially after Colby becomes a vampire. The fact that her family and “best” friend, Piper, didn’t seem fazed by this fact is just absurd. They’re funny and engaging; however, a bit unrealistic especially after Colby becomes a vampire. The fact that her family and “best” friend, Piper, didn’t seem fazed by this fact is just absurd. Colby is the main character in this series and she gets assaulted by this vampire, gets thrown off this ravine and becomes a vampire. The first thing she does? Goes straight home and accidentally scares her mom which made her cut herself with a knife at the time and then Colby proceeds to lick/suck the blood from her mom. What did her mom do? Seem a bit dazed but accepting of the fact. WHAT. I’m pretty sure if I was the mom, I would not be so calm about the fact that my daughter just sucked my blood. And not only that, her father then made her a specific fang headgear because her canines were taken out for braces when she was younger and therefore she had no canines and therefore, no fangs. Two problems with this. One, a lot of my friends had gotten braces when they were younger and none of them had ever gotten their canines removed – that is just so bizarre. Granted, I am not an orthodontist nor am I an expert in this field but regardless, that’s a tad strange. Second, how can she even walk around with that headgear? She would have to carry it with her just so she can eat. She’s clearly not going to wear it on a daily basis because imagine, a fang headgear would certainly turn some heads. This series is great and it’s funny but there are lot of small things that either don’t make sense, seem off or just plain ridiculous. Nonetheless, Colby did grow up a lot in this series. She went from a somewhat shallow typical cheerleader to becoming the Protector of other half-bloods and she certainly grew into that role. There were definitely tons of obstacles in her path but she managed to overcome them with her own charm and wit. She was easy to like but to me, she was also a little slow. A lot of antagonists in the books were quite obvious from the beginning and even one of her sorority girls was able to pick it up from the get-go but not Colby. In fact, she was totally in the dark and didn’t realize anything until the end. I guess, she is still the stereotypical “blond chick”. Piper, Colby’s best friend, was not even her friend in the beginning of the first book. They were neighbors and were friends when they were younger but slowly grew apart as they grew up and all of a sudden, smack, they’re best friends. I mean, I loved Piper – she was great and added a certain spice and attitude to the series but still, why and how did they become friends all of a sudden? It just seemed incredibly random to me. Yet, she was the one who stuck by Colby through thick and thin and overcame her tendency to hide in the face of danger to protect Colby when it counted. Overall, this series was decent – great for a quick laugh and certainly entertaining. Serena definitely brought an interesting twist of half-vampires. There is also a novella after the third book but I doubt I will go in search for it. I would recommend this book more for the MG crowd or the younger YA group.

Both authors have a smart-mouthed heroine, an annoying yet total hottie vampire hero, and a set of circumstances that makes you throw everything you ever thought was true about vampires right out the window. And believe me when I say that this comparison is not a bad thing! Ms. Robar has managed to pen a fun, exciting vampire story that will have you reading long into the night--and the comparison to MJD is nothing but outright flattery. Sixteen-year old Colby Blanchard is the typical blond-haired, blue-eyed cheerleader. She's also very intelligent, has plans to get hunky Aidan Reynolds to ask her to the Homecoming dance, and, while she's at it, will finalize plans for her upcoming seventeenth birthday party. What Colby didn't plan on, or enter into her BlackBerry, was getting knocked out by the Eastside Attacker on the way home from a football game. Where, she might add, Aidan the slimeball went off with Allison to an after-game party. When Colby comes to and returns home, she's very surprised to learn she's been missing for nearly forty-eight hours. Even more surprising, though, is drinking her mother's blood and healing her wound when she cuts herself with a knife. Oddly enough, although frightened, it's not until her Great-Aunt Chloe points out the puncture wounds on her neck that Colby realizes something weirder than a nighttime attack has happened to her. Colby is now a vampire, with the pale, pasty skin, yellowish eyes, and thirst for blood to prove it. Her family seems to take the change in their daughter relatively in stride--Aunt Chloe even had to stake a few vampires years ago during the War when she was a nurse. Her father rushes to help in the only way he knows how (he's an orthodontist) and makes her a hideous headgear apparatus so she can feed, since her canine teeth were removed years ago. So not only is she a freak vampire, she's a mutant freak vampire. To add insult to injury, two vampires come a-calling, informing Colby that she's been summoned to make an appearance to the Tribunal for, and get this, being Undead without a license. The fact that Thomas, the cute, helpful vampire, wants to help her make her case before the Tribunal is one thing. The fact that he's asked to be her Executioner if the Tribunal rejects her plea for a license is quite another. BRACED2BITE is a fun, hilarious read. All of the characters are well-rounded, and the fast-paced dialogue makes the book a delight to read. If you like vampire stories with a dash of romance and a whole bunch of humor, this is definitely the book for you. And thankfully, the next book in the series, FANGS4FREAKS.

At all. How can you let brains like that go to waste on clothes and whether or not you can lose six pounds so you can stay on the top of the cheerleading pyramind? It was almost like two completely different characters. The girl who was obsessed with looking pretty and tanned and not wanting to wear her headgear fangs [that her dad made specifically for her because he felt guilty for having her canines pulled when she was younger] all because they gave her a lisp. Compare that to the girl who gave that spiel about Darwin's 'survival of the fittest' ideology. Two completely different people. Another thing that bothered me about this book was the fact that she walks into the house after being missing for two days and she drinks her mother's blood. DRINKS HER MOTHER'S BLOOD AND THEN SEALS THE WOUND WITH HER SALIVA and her parents don't freak out. Like at all. I mean, her aunt is all "oh I've seen this before. You have no blood pressure and you're cold and you're pale with yellow eyes and Oh! No heart beat. Been there, done that. You're a vampire." And the parents just go along with it. Like they wouldn't freak out if their sixteen year old daughter turned into a vampire. "Well, technically you're dead." Overall it got 2.5 stars because while I didn't particularly favor the book, I know I would have liked it when I was younger. Like twelve. But the vanity of this chick... I have never met anyone that irritating in my entire life. And not a single one of the cheerleaders I've ever known has acted like that. So I would recommend it to the younger crowd, but I think it loses it's charm after about fourteen, fifteen years old. Review also published on my blog, Sunshine Reviews

She had the stereotypically awesome life and I thought it was a little cheesy but when her world get's turned upside down I found myself rooting for her to take control of her bad situation and come out on top...and as alive as an undead person can. Her determination for her right to live got under my skin and that's when I couldn't stop reading. Colby and Thomas's budding relationship made me want to smile and scream at the same time. The sexual tension is amusing and annoying because of course Thomas is the very person who may relieve her of her undead status and he works for the very people who are set to destroy her. I love this couple, and I can't wait to see more of them!

It was wonderful. Epic and funny. Just what I needed. I guess I needed a funny YA Vampire book these days. The last epic vamp book that I've enjoyed was Vampire Kisses Novel. I've starved myself long enough and I need a break from serious angsty adult vampires. Thank God I found this. The story was short and a wee bit weird. Nonetheless, I enjoyed it. There's also the horror of high school. The burden of having to be perfect and on top all the time. I think Colby was too assuming when it comes to boys though. Haha. But damn the girl is too smart, too witty for her own good. She practically defended herself and her kind (half-bloods)from the court of vamps "princes" whatever. I'm proud of her. Screw them bigoted vamps. >;)

Colby Blanchard is an average popular, high school cheerleader, senior at her school. Then one night, after a football game she gets ditched by the star quarterback and has to walk home. On her way she is attacked and bitten by a vampire and turned. When she finally makes it home, the life she knew is now over. Turns out she isn't a full fledged vampire but a half blood. Not good. Half bloods are shunned by the vampire community. All Colby wants to do is to go back to her life..... not so easy when you can't eat anything really but blood, seriously sunburn, and are Undead. This is probably one of the funniest books I have read in a while. Colby is not your typical character. She's snarky, smart, and packs a mean punch. She is quick with the sarcastic one-liners which make for some laugh out loud moments. I would recommend this book because it is a fun, "brain-candy" book. Enjoy!

There is something about cheerleaders crossing over to the dark side that just gets me. This book was exciting! I loved reading about Colby and loved her attitude. She acted just as I thought she would and I enjoyed every minute of it. The one thing about this book was that is was a fun, easy, quick, read. The plot and drama was good and nothing was overrated. Her maker I was definitely interested in. He was very intriguing. Also, I like how Colby was feeling attracted to the vamp counsel dude. Totaly ironic that she fall for a guy who is way out of her league. Now on the other hand, I felt this book needed more. Although it was fun and easy, I would like to read more into the story and learn more abou the vampires. I did however buy the second book, and will read that one soon to see what more is in store. If you like an over achiever cheerleader going vamp with all the drama read this. Its was fun and witty read and will satisfy your vamp side.

Colby has everything anybody her age could want. Captain of her squad, a 4.0 GPA, popularity, and having Aiden as her boyfriend would complete it all. But when she is attacked in the woods and comes home two days later her life turns upside down. Her skin is pale and her eyes are golden. Goth girl Piper the least likely person checks up on her regularly. Her two best friends hadn't called about her. Aiden blows her off and acts like she doesn't exist. Her family tells her she's a half vampire. W Colby has everything anybody her age could want. Captain of her squad, a 4.0 GPA, popularity, and having Aiden as her boyfriend would complete it all. This was a good start to the series. I liked how Colby took no ones shit and wasn't a super dumb blond so I will continue this series I am very please with it.

Firstly I'd give them book a 6 out of 10. It was a pretty good book. I wouldn't reread it though. The book had some interesting things in it, like half-blood vampires. The main character starts off as human and gets turned into a half-blood vampire. How someone can only be half vampire to me doesn't make sense. However she can walk in the sunlight and can function during all hours of the day or night, but she still has to sleep. He was around 18-20 when he was turned I believe. He still is fairly young in appearance and she has issues once she found out he was around 80 years old, however I think she got over that pretty quickly.

I read this as part of an ebook box set. A friend posted about it on her timeline, and so I decided to give it a go for 99 cents. It was okay. Colby Blanchard is a vapid, self-centered girl who gets attacked and turned into a half-blood vampire. It's an interesting twist. I think this book suffered from the fact that I was reading it just after reading a really excellent YA series. This book is about a perfect teenage girl named Colby who suddenly decided to walk the short way home. Now she is a half blood, not a vampire yet, she didn't get her license yet. Her life is basically ruined. She don't know who she can trust and she is lost and confused what she should do. She decides things for herself. I am surprised that Colby's aunt is calm and helps Colby with her problems. Also her mom is also pretty lean and helpful along the way.

Funny and amusing, this book offers a unique look at the situation a girl gets herself into when she's been changed into a dhampyr - a mongrel among the Vampiric society. With a prom to plan, an old best-friend to become reacquainted with, a hottie Vampire (who may just have to kill her), college interviews to attend, homework to do, and a sire that won't give up on stalking her, there's just not a lot of time to get through everything. I really liked reading Braced 2 Bite. It was a light, entertaining read that had some humour. I quite liked the story line it was different to other storylines I usually come across. The ending was a satisfactory one too. The characters were all pretty cool. I felt sorry for Colby and the predicament she was in. I also really liked Piper. Together, the two of them made for a very interesting book. Overall, I thoroughly enjoyed Braced 2 Bite, it was light and fun. I loved that it included humour. Funny, fresh take on the whole vampire genre. Think Cordelia from Buffy the Vampire Slayer becoming a vampire and I think you have a good idea of Colby the MC of Braced to Bite. She's a cheerleader and slightly shallow but can also stand up and fight when she has to. The "braced" comes from Colby having her canines removed as a child so she doesn;t have fangs as a vampire. Her dad - an orthodontist makes her a set for eating..er...drinking. This isn't a dark broody type of YA vampire series. It's Funny, fresh take on the whole vampire genre. I really didn't like this author's take on the vampire world. I've read a lot of different books with vampire characters, and these just weren't as entertaining. Licenses, and tribunals, and half-bloods, etc? I certainly wouldn't want to be a vampire or Undead in that world. I also thought it was a bit ridiculous how Colby, and her family and friends were so accepting of the fact that she was a vampire. Where is the shock? The disbelief? I think if I came home and told my parents *I* was a vampir I really didn't like this author's take on the vampire world. This was cute, funny and a little silly and predictable but a fast enjoyable read. There are a few flaws but I was in a just-go-with-it mood so I found it to be a good book for when you just want to pass some time with a light non-serious read that will make you giggle a little (like the whole fangs issue). I don't feel like running out to get the next one but if I come across the rest of the series I'd be happy to read them.
